A lot of my friends have been asking how everything is going with Chakra Clothing Company, and it’s not an easy question to answer. We live in a society that trains us to want immediate results and instant success. I’ve thought quite a bit about how to answer this question and the best way to describe how I feel is that starting a company is like riding a glacier; you have 12,000 things you try to move one inch a day.
In our immediate gratification culture there’s a tendency to think that the slow pace is akin to failure. I feel it everyday; I want to see a wave of high speed progress washing over everything I do! But reality, and success work at their own pace, and this is good.
The Navy Seals have a saying I use all the time: “slow is smooth, and smooth is FAST”. Slowing down allows us to explore options, make better decisions and minimize mistakes. We all want to take the fastest, easiest path to success but every endeavor I’ve ever been proud of has taken time, effort, energy, commitment and dedication. Thomas Edison famously said: “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”
Slow down and enjoy the ride. Don’t ruin the journey by focusing solely on the destination.
